Houndstooth Italian Wool Mens Robe (Large)
Sometimes you are lucky and I was with one of my suppliers from way back. I rang her out of the blue to ask whether she had any wool and she told me she is sitting in a wearhouse full of vintage Italian wool rescued from sealed factories in Italy from the 1940's to the 1960's. I went a bit nuts. This was one of the amazing fabrics that I was able to get.
The wool is a classic houndstooth combination of grey, blue, black, maroon. It is lighter weight and a looser weave. Originally, it was destined for Japan, according to the swing tag on the original roll, but made in Italy sometime around the 1950's.
The lining is 100% cotton shirting in grey, red and white most likely from the 1980's, also from Italy. The gown is fully lined including the back of the neck so the wool does not touch you. Photographed here with the cuffs turned down. They can also be worn folded up. If you would like to wear your sleeves with the cuff up, there is an extra 6cm in the hem for alteration.

If you are confused or are unable to work out your size, please email me and I will help you. My sizes are cut very generously, so you will be in a smaller size than you normally are. These measurements are of the garment laying flat on the table and with buttons done up, NOT of the person wearing it.
By the way, in one photo, where Mitch is exposing the lining, the red inside buttons are there to reinforce the buttons on the outside of the gown. They are there for strength so that the constant pressure on the fabric under the button is not on the fabric but on the red button on the inside.
The Small size has a different liner.
They are all limited edition and bespoke pieces. I have no more of this fabric and cannot make to order, unfortunately.
*The robe is fully lined in 100% cotton Italian shirting fabric.
*Even the back of the neck is lined so the wool does not touch your skin.
*There are two hidden pockets in the side seams.
*All buttons are hand dyed vintage buttons from the 1940's-50's.
*In the photographs, the cuffs are turned down but can easily be folded up to expose the lining.
*The sleeve hems and bottom hem are both hand sewn so that if you need to alter the length of either, this can be done very easily if you are handy, or by your alterationist.
*The entire length of the front edges of the robe and around the collar is top stitched by hand, similar to a mens hand made suit, so that the collar edges do not roll and always lay flat.
MEASUREMENTS:
*Measurements: The last photo has all the measurements for all sizes. These measurements are of the garment laying flat on the table and with buttons done up, NOT of the person wearing it. Contact me with questions if you are unsure.
*The overlap in the front of the gown is 6" or 15cm on all gowns.
*Shaping at the waist can be achieved with the tie belt and the buttons are there so there so the gown does not gape open.
