Vintage Tweed Italian Wool Mens Robe-Large only
Sometimes you are lucky and I was with one of my suppliers from way back. I rang her out of the blue to ask whether she had any wool and she told me she is sitting in a wearhouse full of vintage Italian wool rescued from sealed factories in Italy from the 1940's to the 1960's. I went a bit nuts. This was one of the amazing fabrics that I was able to get.
This one is very special. It is 100% wool from Italy originally made for the tailor John Hardy of London in 1940.
The wool itself is a bold combination of beige, olive green, mustard yellow, red. It is beautiful heavy tweed for all you tweed aficionados out there.
This wool has a fantastic story. It was woven at the beginning of World War 2 and could not be sent to England because Italy and England were on opposite sides of the war. Instead it was stored in waxed cloth and forgotten in a sealed factory in Florence for over 70 years and is in perfect condition. It has a very smooth hand feel and is very tightly woven.
The lining is 100% cotton shirting in gold from the 1980's, also from Italy. The gown is fully lined including the back of the neck so the wool does not touch you. Photographed here with the cuffs turned up. They can also be worn folded down for a gent with longer arms.
They are all limited edition and bespoke pieces, proudly 100% Australian made.
I have no more of this fabric and cannot make to order, unfortunately.

*The robe is fully lined in 100% cotton Italian shirting fabric.
*Even the back of the neck is lined so the wool does not touch your skin.
*There are two hidden pockets in the side seams.
*All buttons are hand dyed vintage buttons from the 1940's-50's.
*In the photographs, the cuffs are turned up to expose the lining but can easily be folded down.
*The sleeve hems and bottom hem are both hand sewn so that if you need to alter the length of either, this can be done very easily if you are handy, or by your alterationist.
*The entire length of the front edges of the robe and around the collar is top stitched by hand, similar to a mens hand made suit, so that the collar edges do not roll and always lay flat.
*Measurements: The last photo has all the measurements for all sizes. These measurements are of the garment laying flat on the table and with buttons done up, NOT of the person wearing it. Contact me with questions if you are unsure.
*The overlap in the front of the gown is 6" or 15cm on all gowns.
*Shaping at the waist can be achieved with the tie belt and the buttons are there so there so the gown does not gape open.
SHIPPING:
In Australia, the gowns will be shipped Express Post with signature so that they arrive safely.
