Teal Wool Dressing Gown/Robe, size Small

A$480.00

Sometimes I am lucky to find some unusual bits of fabric. This was a roll end from a designer fabric in 90% merino wool 10% polyester. It is heavy, like a blanket, and textured like a curly sheepskin. The colour is magic, deep teal, and its textured nature gives it interest. I have blanket stitched this one because it has the weight of a blanket dressing gown.

Where possible for the lining, I use vintage bed sheets if I can find them, otherwise I use 100% natural fibre fabrics which have been reclaimed, such as factory overruns or from unused lengths of fabrics recycled from someone else's stash. This lining is an old Swiss cotton lining from the 1960’s/1970’s. I purchased years ago in Melbourne from a supplier who supplied the shirt making industry here, when we still had one.

I have hand washed the wool fabric so I know it can be done but it is very heavy and awkward to work with when it’s wet so it would be easier to dry clean it.

The Details:

*All buttons are vintage buttons from the 1940's-70's.

*This particular fabric is from New Zealand and is a Designer over run that has been lovingly up-cycled and repurposed into this wonderful dressing gown. It is a one-off bespoke piece.

*The lining of the gown is made from a coordinating dramatic floral cotton which was purchased from a Melbourne company that purchases excess fabric from manufacturers (predominantly Swiss fabrics) to save them from landfill. It has been in my stash for over 15 years.

*The wool fabric for this robe is on the heavier side, similar to the weight of a coat. It is nice and cozy.

*The small robe is a Australian size 8-10 which is slightly smaller than US sizing and slightly larger than UK sizing.

*The wool is 900% merino wool/10% polyester and the robe is fully lined in 100% cotton fabric.

*Even the back of the neck is lined so the wool does not touch your skin.

‍*There are two hidden pockets in the side seams, double layered for strength..

*In the photographs, the cuffs are turned up to expose the lining but can easily be folded down.

*The sleeve hems and bottom hem are both hand sewn so that if you need to alter the length of either, this can be done very easily if you are handy, or by your alterationist.

*The entire length of the front edges of the robe and around the collar is blanket stitched as the old blankets were on the edges, only mine is done by my hand.

*Measurements: Please refer to the measurement table for this garment. Th measurements are of the garment, not of the person wearing it.
